Eating out

It can be a bit of a lottery picking an eating establishment at random when you’re away from home. In your best interests Tim and I have eaten out on numerous occasions in order to be able to volunteer a personal opinion on all the local hostelries in out area. It was hard work but someone had to do it!

Different occasions demand different standards. Sometimes cheap and cheerful is ideal, other times, perhaps on your last evening in the area something more special is in order.

We actually have an excellent bakery in Callington if the weather is good enough to plan a picnic lunch.

The Swingletree and the Coachmakers Arms both about a mile away are very reasonably priced and have been enjoyed by many of our guests.

Likewise, Callington, just over a mile away has a number of takeaways and we are more than happy to provide plates, cutlery, corkscrew and glasses and our garden room for you to eat in.

Our personal favourites, both about five miles away are the Springer Spaniel at Treburley which specialises in game and fish and boasts a Rick Stein trained chef. It isn’t overly expensive, real ales, cider and service are excellent.

Likewise we love the picturesque location of the Royal Inn at Horsebridge pictured above and the food and drink are pretty good too! www.royalinn.co.uk/

The Crow's Nest, just up on the moor is a lovely little pub run by the nicest people and well worth a visit.

The Who'd Have Thought It at nearby St Dominick is an attractive old spacious pub with good food and wonderful views of the Tamar Valley.

One of Cornwall’s award winning restaurants is a mere mile away from us www.langmansrestaurant.co.uk/

“Relax in chic surroundings and enjoy a great gourmet experience”.

Another famous establishment is only a few miles away. The Horn of Plenty at Gulworthy www.thehornofplenty.co.uk has been voted one of the top ten south west restaurants.

Rick Stein’s at Padstow, www.rickstein.com and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen www.fifteencornwall.co.uk at the stunningly beautiful Watergate Bay are both about an hour’s drive away and far more reasonably priced at lunchtime - just a thought!
