I've just completed an extremely interesting course in Sustainable Tourism organised by the Coast group in Cornwall and following that here is our Environmental Policy.........!

We at the Olive Tree, Tim and Elaine welcome you to this peaceful corner of Cornwall. We hope you make the most of this opportunity to relax and unwind; returning home after your break feeling refreshed and revitalised. You may have chosen to visit us because of the tranquil and unspoilt nature of the area and we aim to work towards keeping it that way, and you can help.

Recycling - we aim to recycle as much waste as possible I’m sure most of you recycle at home and find it frustrating the amount of litter you accumulate over a day out when away from home. Don’t feel that you’ll offend us if you bring it back to the Olive Tree in the evening and use our recycling facilities for glass, paper and plastic. If you have any waste food, please put it in the bin provided as much of it will be suitable for the chicken.

Transport - do you need to use your car every day of your holiday? Wouldn’t it be enjoyable to have a break from driving? We have information and timetables available for local public transport and will happily give you a lift to and from the local bus stops and railway station. Or enjoy a healthy stroll to the bus stop which is only a mile up the road with routes to Liskeard, Launceston, Plymouth and Tavistock.

The Tamar Valley Line one of most beautiful in country, should you want to visit Plymouth leave your car in Gunnislake and go by train – no parking fees and no stressful driving in the city!

We have two mountain bikes which you are welcome to borrow or secure storage should you wish to bring your own bicycle here.

We have a wealth of lovely local footpaths. The beautiful Tamar Valley AONB is on the doorstep and Kit Hill Country Park is a mile away. We have a book of local walks and ordnance survey maps available to borrow.

If you should get wet walking or cycling give your clothes to us and we will dry them out!

We all know of the famous places in Cornwall such a Padstow, Looe and St Ives, however there are similar places which are lesser known therefore more peaceful and often closer to visit – Port Isaac, Kingsand and Cawsand, the beautiful medieval Cotehele House with lovely gardens is very close by. Tell us the sort of place you would like to visit and we’ll see if we can come up with a closer alternative.

Local Produce - you will find a list of local food suppliers in the folder in your bedroom should you wish to try our lovely local produce during your stay. Take some home with you for your own consumption and as presents for friends and relatives.

Likewise the eggs you enjoy with your breakfast here are from our own free range chicken you can see from the breakfast room. You are welcome to purchase a tray to take home with you.

Local Amenities - There is a list of good local pubs to eat at and local restaurants and directions in folder in your bedroom, also days and dates of local Farmers’ Markets

Energy Conservation - there are controls on the radiators in the rooms, if you’re too hot please turn the heating down rather than opening a window!

Due to a lack of light pollution stars are clearly visible on clear nights especially from the top of garden.

Massage and reflexology treatments are offered in the therapy room in the garden in order to help you unwind.

Bio-degradable doggie bags are available for your use.

Feel welcome to picnic, barbecue or eat a takeaway in a sheltered area of the garden or use the breakfast room overlooking the garden and see how many wild birds you can identify on the bird table. Don’t forget to save your crumbs for them!
